Buckinghamshire County Council is seeking two volunteers to help promote and maintain high standards of conduct among elected Councillors.
The volunteers for the role of ‘Independent Person’ will work with County Council Monitoring Officer Sarah Ashmead should a complaint be made about the conduct of a Councillor. They will give advice on conduct matters and their help will be available to any Councillor who may be the subject of a complaint.
The Chairman of the County Council’s Regulatory and Audit Committee, David Martin, said: ‘Elected Councillors must adhere always to the highest ethical standards and comply with the County Council code of conduct in all aspects of their duties.
It’s important that those who elect them have a say in ensuring the highest standards are met. That’s why we are looking for volunteers from the public who have a broad range of experience, good communication skills, independence of mind, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in public life.‘
Applications to serve in the role of ‘Independent Person’ are open until Friday 29th September 2017. Details on how to apply can be found at www.buckscc.gov.uk/independentpersons.
Candidates should have an interest in or knowledge of local government and ethical governance. Experience in public, private, voluntary or charitable sectors is desirable. Training will be given and an expenses are payable.
