More than five years imprisonment for man who stabbed two people in the Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe
A man has been sentenced to more than five years’ imprisonment after stabbing two people in the Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe.
The 22 year old man of Spearing Road, High Wycombe appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday 29th August 2017. He pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.
On Friday 23rd June 2017 the man was shopping with his girlfriend and was outside House of Fraser at the Eden shopping centre in High Wycombe. He became involving in a verbal altercation with a group of males.
The man walked away but turned around and gestured towards them in an aggressive manner. He then got in to a lift to go to the car park and while doing this the group followed in his direction.
The man remained in the lift and returned to the ground floor where he exited the lift and ran at speed to the group with a knife out and stabbed two of the group in the back before fleeing the scene.
The first victim sustained a stab wound to his lower back and the second victim sustained a stab wound to the lower back and his arm.
On Monday 16th October 2017 the 22 year old man was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court to five years and six months’ imprisonment for each count of GBH with intent and one year imprisonment for the possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article offence. The sentences will run concurrently, totalling five years and six months’ imprisonment. He was also given a two year extended licence as he was classed as a ‘dangerous offender’ by the judge.
The 22 year old man was charged in connection with the offences on Wednesday 28th June 2017.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Nathan Davey, of Force CID based at High Wycombe police station, said: ‘[The 22 year old man] stabbed two people in the back in a pre-meditated violent act on a Friday afternoon in a busy shopping centre.
He had every opportunity to remove himself from the situation, but decided to arm himself with a large knife and return to the busy shopping centre and stab the two victims in the back before running away.
The Judge classified [The 22 year old man] as a dangerous offender. Due to the extended licence period of two years for being a dangerous offender he will serve the majority, if not all, of his five year and six month sentence before being released.
