Wycombe Wanderers travelled to Cheltenham for a League Two match on Saturday 17th February 2018.
Wycombe, currently flying high in League Two, needed a win against mid-table Cheltenham to keep their automatic promotion hopes on track.
The first half saw some interesting and entertaining football with both sides making chances however Wycombe showed their dominance in the fortieth minute when Adebayo Akinfenwa gave the Blues their first goal from a shot which found the bottom right corner of the Cheltenham net.
Looking to secure the victory as soon as possible Wycombe scored a second when, in the first minute in injury time at the end of the first half, Paris Cowan-Hall shot with the ball ending up at the back of the net in the centre of the Cheltenham goal.
The second half was just as entertaining and Cheltenham made several attempts to come back however Wycombe’s defence was as strong as their attack and the ball never crossed the Wycombe goal line. Wycombe achieved with another win, gained some more points and remain in the automatic promotion positions.
During the game Wycombe could only manage 47% possession but placed four of their ten shots on goal on target. Cheltenham placed three of their five shots on goal on target. Thirty two fouls marred the game, sixteen committed by each team.
After today’s match Wycombe climb to second position in League Two with sixty two points from thirty three games.
Wycombe are definitely a team on form, is it any wonder that last week an approach was made from a Championship club to speak to the Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth about their managerial vacancy, needless to say the approach was rejected.
The attendance at the LCI Rail Stadium was 3,513.
