Scannappeal launch £350k appeal to support breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in Buckinghamshire

Local charity Scannappeal have launched The Breast Biopsy Appeal to fund revolutionary 3D technology, transforming diagnosis and treatment for patients in Buckinghamshire with early breast cancer.
The appeal will support the integrated Breast Unit for Buckinghamshire (based at Wycombe Hospital) to fully equip a second dedicated biopsy suite within the unit with 3D mammography technology.
Targeted biopsies will be carried out quicker with pinpoint accuracy, significantly reducing the time patients need to wait from diagnosis to treatment. Importantly this cutting edge equipment will help in diagnosing very small cancers at an early stage, improving prognosis.

The new equipment will improve patient experience, reduce waiting times and improve work flow for radiologists and radiographers.‘
The integrated Breast Unit is a state of the art one stop service where 30,000 patients a year are supported through breast screening and symptomatic care provided by expert clinicians.
Previous support from the Scannappeal charity enabled the Breast Unit to move to digital technology on site at Wycombe Hospital and through mobile units which can be regularly seen touring sites across the local community.
The Bucks Integrated Breast Unit is a state of the art one stop breast diagnostic and treatment service which supports around 30,000 patients from across Buckinghamshire every year.
Following routine screening at the unit 80 to 100 patients recalled for assessment with 500 new symptomatic cases seen each month. 20 to 25% of referrals will need image guided biopsy.
