Wycombe Wanderers 2-3 Portsmouth

Saturday 6th April 2019 saw Portsmouth visit Adams Park for a League One match with Wycombe Wanderers.

Portsmouth had the better start to the game from the outset of the match. With several attempts on the Wycombe goal in the opening few minutes eventually the inevitable happened in the seventeenth minute when Jamal Lowe put the visitors in front with a shot from the centre of the box in to the bottom left corner of the Wycombe net.

Towards the end of the first half Wycombe did have a couple of opportunities, both of which were either saved or missed the target. At half time Portsmouth were leading by a solitary goal.

When play resumed the visitors extended their lead almost immediately. In the forty sixth minute Brett Pitman shot from outside the box with the ball finding the centre of the Wycombe goal.

Going two goals down seemed to spur the Chairboys on and they started pressing looking for their first goal of the game. In the fifty fifth minute Marcus Bean scored for Wycombe with a right footed shot from very close range which found the centre of the Portsmouth goal.

Wycombe kept pressing looking for a second goal however it was Portsmouth who scored next when, in the sixtieth minute, Brett Pitman (Portsmouth) scored from a free kick with a right footed shot to the top left corner of the Chairboys net.

Scott Kashket scored a second for Wycombe in the eighty second minute of the match with a left footed shot from outside the box which found the bottom left corner of the Portsmouth goal.

Despite the late scare for the visitors Wycombe were unable to draw level despite having several further chances to do so.

Following today’s game Wycombe drop to nineteenth place in League One, one place above the relegation zone, with forty four points from forty games.
