Buckinghamshire County Council offer free road closures for events to commemorate VE/VJ 75
The 75th anniversary of VE Day will be on Friday 8th May 2020 with the VJ Day anniversary taking place on Saturday 15th August 2020.
Buckinghamshire County Council are inviting residents and community groups across Buckinghamshire to think about ways to mark these key anniversaries which mark the ending of the Second World War in Europe and Japan.
The County Council has agreed that it will be offer free road closure licences should local communities or street associations plan to host street parties or parades to mark the anniversaries on the weekends of Friday 8th to Sunday 10th May 2020 and Friday 14th and 15th August 2020.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Bill Bendyshe-Brown, said: ‘We are delighted to link together with the national programme of events around VE and VJ Day by encouraging our local residents to host their own events to commemorate these significant anniversaries.
We hope that by waiving all fees for temporary road closures communities can get together and remember all those who lived, served and gave their lives for their country.‘
Small grants schemes for local groups are being run by each of the four district councils in Buckinghamshire for anyone who may want to host an event linked to the anniversaries. Further information on the schemes can be found on the respective district council websites:

The Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, said: ‘We hope lots of local communities will think about doing something to remember the sacrifices and scale of service given by the men and women of the Second World War generation.
It is important that we all take a moment to remember the great sacrifices made by an entire generation of men and women.‘
