Man sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for fly-tipping in Buckinghamshire

A man has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for a series of fly-tipping offences in Buckinghamshire.
The series of fly tipping offences and a previous history of offending led to High Wycombe magistrates sentencing a 48 year old man of Long Furlong Drive, Slough to 12 months imprisonment.
The 48 year old man was caught twice on surveillance cameras fly tipping waste from different vehicles in Allerds Road, Burnham, Buckinghamshire. On Tuesday 8th May 2018 he was seen dumping building waste. On Thursday 12th July 2018 he dumped furniture including a bed and sofa.

In the following month, building waste that was found dumped on Wednesday 1st August 2018 on Amerden Lane, Taplow was traced back to a property being renovated in Slough. The 48 year old man had been paid to collect and properly dispose of building waste from the property.

The 48 year old man failed to respond when asked to come for interview by Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire enforcement officers. He nevertheless received a summons to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates Court on Wednesday 12th February 2020 for offences of illegal dumping based on the evidence collected in the investigation.
The 48 year old man failed to appear in court and was subsequently arrested by the police and brought before High Wycombe magistrates on Friday 21st February 2020. He was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment on each of the three charges to run consecutively, however this was reduced to 12 months total in recognition of his guilty plea. A victim surcharge of £149 was also levied against him.
South Bucks District Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire said: ‘The sentence in this case reflects the serious nature of the crime – a repeat offender who persistently used the lanes of South Bucks as a dumping ground, with total disregard for road users, the environment, and the community.
This impressive result is one of the first prosecutions conducted on behalf of the Waste Partnership by the legal team at Wycombe District Council. Working closely with the enforcement team at Bucks County Council, their involvement marks a new chapter in our joint zero-tolerance pursuit of people who fly tip in Buckinghamshire.‘
The case was prosecuted by Wycombe District Council working on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire. The Waste Partnership launched the SCRAP Fly Tipping campaign in August 2018 to combat illegal dumping and waste management offences in Buckinghamshire.
Since 2003 the Partnership has secured over 740 convictions against individuals and companies for illegal dumping and related offences, leading to fines and costs being imposed against offenders totalling over £1 million.
