Scouts sleep out during Storm Dennis to raise money for Wycombe Homeless Connection

| February 26, 2020

Thirty-five Cubs and Scouts slept out during Storm Dennis to raising money for Wycombe Homeless Connection.

The Cubs and Scouts, from the 8th High Wycombe Scout Group, spent the night sleeping under shelters made from cardboard and tarpaulins to raising money for Wycombe Homeless Connection.

The group originally set a target to raise of £500 however by 8.30am on Saturday 15th February 2020 they had raised £1,100 with the total rising to £1,817.30 by Wednesday 26th February 2020.

Luis Carro said: ‘We spoke about raising money for a good cause and the children chose people who are homeless. We had an evening where the children learnt about those who sleep out all night and are often not sure where their next meal is coming from. Several of the children were sponsored by friends, neighbours and relatives for how many hours they could stay outside for.

I’m really proud of all of the children as they’ve experienced something which is a way of life for some people. The evening and the sleep-out will go towards the children earning their Community Impact badge.

I’ve been a volunteer with Scouts for five years. The reason I joined was to see my children be challenged and to help other children do activities for the first time. It’s given me the opportunity to see my children and other children look at high ropes or climbing or cooking a meal and achieving all of them after they had initially said, ‘I can’t do it!’
