Recycling and garden waste collections suspended in the Chiltern and Wycombe Districts due to Coronavirus

| March 24, 2020

Due to Covid-19 the recycling and garden waste collections have been suspended in the Chiltern and Wycombe Districts.

As a result of the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), waste services are currently operating with a reduced number of staff.

On Monday 23rd March 2020 Wycombe District Council took the difficult decision to suspend recycling collections in the Chiltern and Wycombe Districts because of driver and loader shortages.

The recycling collections that are suspended includes :

  • Paper and card (box).
  • Mixed dry recycling (cans, glass and plastic in bins).

However recycling collections at communal properties (flats / houses of multiple occupancy) will continue to take place as normal.

Last week the decision was taken to suspend the garden waste collections in the Chiltern and Wycombe Districts. Bulky waste collections are also not currently taking place.

By suspending the garden waste service and recycling service, the contractors are able to use these vehicles, drivers and loaders to support general rubbish, food and clinical collections which have priority.

Residents can still use the Household Recycling Centres in Buckinghamshire to dispose of recycling waste however social distancing measures are advised when visiting the centres.

Wycombe District and Chiltern District Councils are working with their contractors to secure extra staff to make sure that any disruption is as short as possible.

UPDATED 30th March 2020

Recycling collections (mixed and paper and card) were resumed in the Wycombe District on Monday 30th March 2020. The recycling will be collected on the next scheduled recycling collection day. Containers that were not collected during the period of service suspension, from Monday 23rd March 2020 to Friday 27th March 2020, will not be emptied until the next scheduled collection.

Anyone with so much recycling that it doesn’t fit in their bin or container is advised to add it neatly to the side in either a recyclable or reusable container.

If you are not able to store your recycling, it can be disposed of in your general rubbish bin or bags on your usual collection day. However, to support crews, the Council is asking that residents contain all their waste within their bin or sacks (max 4 per collection).

Currently there are planned changes to collection frequencies or days.

However the food waste service remains suspended until further notice. Food waste should be put into your general rubbish bin, which will be collection on your usual general rubbish collection day.
