On Saturday 22nd October 2022, residents get the chance to see plans for the transformation of Wendover Community Library into a community hub for the town.

The transformation is taking place thanks to £473,000 in grant funding that has been secured by Buckinghamshire Council.

Books and reading will remain absolutely central to the new library, but the vision is to reinforce the library as the focal point for the community by promoting it as the main point of access to local information and services in Wendover.

To do this, the library will be expanded, creating new flexible meeting space and allowing partnerships with new organisations to be developed. One priority will be to support economic regeneration in Wendover by developing tourist and visitor information and by celebrating Wendover as the gateway to the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Going forward, the transformed library will be able to reach a wider section of the community with a broader range of information and activities with a particular focus on culture, health and wellbeing and inclusion.

The public exhibition of the plans for the library will take place at the library itself between 10.00am and 4.00pm this Saturday 22nd October 2022.

Clive Harriss, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Buckinghamshire Council, said: ‘This is a very exciting opportunity to expand an important community asset for Wendover and build on the library’s existing work supporting culture and learning in the town.

I’m very pleased that the Council have been able to top up the generous grant from Arts Council England through our capital funding programme to help the library achieve its aspirations to become a welcoming and attractive space that can act as a hub for information, activities and local services in the town.
