On Tuesday 24th October 2023 the Kashmir Flag was hoisted at Castlefield Community Centre in Celebration of Kashmir National Day.
In a symbolic gesture of unity, community cohesion, and celebration of cultural heritage, the Kashmir Development Foundation (KDF) proudly hoisted the Kashmir flag at Castlefield Community Centre on Tuesday 24th October 2023 to mark Kashmir National Day.
This significant event was part of the annual ‘Jammu and Kashmir History Week’ celebrations, which took place from Friday 20th to Friday 27th of October 2023. The week-long celebration aimed to foster community integration, enhance knowledge and understanding of the Kashmiri diaspora community’s history, culture and contributions to the local economy, cultural heritage and civic life in various towns and cities across the UK.
The flag hoisting ceremony at Castlefield Community Centre was attended by members of the local community, representatives from the KDF, councillors and other dignitaries. The event was a testament to the strong sense of community and cultural pride that exists among the Kashmiri diaspora in the UK.
The KDF’s initiative aligns with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Guidance on Flying Flags (2021), which encourages local authorities and organizations to celebrate special days or events that champion civic pride.
The Kashmir National Day holds immense significance for the Kashmiri community residing in the UK and across the world. It is a day to celebrate their heritage, foster community cohesion, and promote unity and understanding among all communities, contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious society.
