The Best of Buckinghamshire’s Artists are coming to Beaconsfield for their annual Open exhibition. All Buckinghamshire Artists are invited to submit.
The 2024 Buckinghamshire Art Society (BAS) Open Exhibition is to be held at the Fitzwilliams Centre, Windsor End, Beaconsfield HP9 2JW from Saturday 4th May 2024 to Monday 6th May 2024. The exhibition will be open daily 10.00am to 5.00pm.
A Preview Evening will take place on Friday 3rd May 2024 from 6.30pm to 9.00pm.
The featured artist is the very talented Mia Babb. After completing an Art Foundation Course at High Wycombe College, Mia took a year out to earn some money for University, but the lure of financial gain meant she never continued her art studies. During a varied career in retail, she constantly tried new methods and media in her spare time and completed a BA in art history through the Open University. After suffering a stroke during brain surgery she turned to Pen and Ink to re-train her right arm which had been temporarily paralysed. Involvement at a local art show, gave her the confidence to not only display more but also to set up her own Fine Art (Giclée) printing studio – Babbabing. Pen and Ink (and gold leaf) is still her favourite medium and she gets completely lost in capturing detail. She also loves coloured pencil and pastels, especially when doing commissions.
Founded in 1920. BAS plays an active role in the visual arts in Buckinghamshire, organising exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops and various social events, the majority of which are open to the public. The society maintains close links with the County Museum in Aylesbury.
BAS has around 90 members, a large proportion of whom are professional and semi-professional artists. Representing a wide variety of styles and media, all members are elected to the Society based on their skill as artists. Since its foundation, BAS has organized at least two exhibitions per year, traditionally one in the autumn for members only, and another in spring, which is open and non-members can submit their work.
Antonia Glynne Jones, Publicity Officer of BAS, said: ‘We strive to maintain a rigorous selection process for entry into the Society. This ensures that our exhibitions continue to reflect the very best art Buckinghamshire has to offer. With such a wide range of talent, there really is something for everyone at our show.‘
