AVDC Chairman urges support for Poppy Appeal
The Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council, Councillor Michael Rand, has appealed to local people to join him in wearing their poppies with pride this autumn.
Councillor Rand is helping to promote this year’s Poppy Appeal with members from the Aylesbury branch of the Royal British Legion.
The annual Poppy Appeal gives local people the chance to show their support for our Armed Forces and contribute to a wide variety of schemes in support of current and former services personnel and their families.
Last year in the Aylesbury area about £45,000 was raised through the Poppy Appeal.
The money raised is used to support a wide variety of projects and support for former and current service personnel, from help with retraining and housing to mobility aids and recovery centres.
Councillor Rand said: ‘The Royal British Legion does some fantastic work, which it is really important for all of us to support. I would encourage everyone in Aylesbury Vale – young and old – to show their support for our serving armed forces and veterans by buying a poppy and wearing it with pride.‘
Councillor Rand will be leading a Remembrance Service in the Aylesbury Market Square on Sunday 9th November 2014. All members of the public are invited to attend and take part.
