162 speeding tickets issued and one person arrested during 5 day speed enforcement operation in Marlow

From Monday 9th May 2016 to Friday 13th May 2016 neighbourhood officers, special constables and volunteers from Marlow and Marlow South West Rural team joined up to target road safety issues across both neighbourhoods in a week long road safety and speed enforcement operation in Marlow.

The operation aimed to remind people of the dangers of speeding and careless driving, concerns frequently raised by local residents.

In total 162 tickets were issued for speeding and a further eight people were reported for summons due to travelling at 50mph or higher within a 30mph zone. The fastest speed recorded was 62mph within the 30mph zone; this was along the Henley Road in Marlow.

One car was seized due to having no tax and no MOT and one driver was arrested due to being shown as ‘wanted’ on the Police National Computer for numerous theft offences. Another driver was reported for driving with no driving licence and no insurance.

Volunteers also worked alongside officers by completing ‘Community Speed Watch’. In total 134 vehicles were identified to be speeding by volunteers using the speed indication device. The registered owners of these vehicles have all been sent a community speed watch letter warning them about their driving.

PC Danny O’Driscoll, Neighbourhood Officer for Marlow South West Rural team based at Marlow police station, said: ‘The operation has been a real success in not just enforcing speed limits but also in reminding motorists of the importance of driving with due care and attention.

Many of those that were stopped were completely unaware of the speed limit for the road that they were travelling on and nearly 50 per cent of those issued a ticket or sent a community speed watch letter actually live in the neighbourhood.
