Chiltern Railways launch cycle hire scheme at Oxford Parkway station

Passengers using Oxford Parkway station can now take advantage of a cycle hire scheme.

Chiltern Railways, in partnership with Bainton Bikes and Donkey Republic, are offering Oxford Parkway customers the ability to hire a bicycle using just their smartphone.

Already in action at other locations in Oxford, the system gives extra flexibility for onward travel once passengers have arrived at the recently built station. The cycle hire scheme also adds to Oxford’s sustainable transport options.

Using the Donkey Republic smartphone app users can unlock bicycles and rent them for a specific length of time. During the rental period the bicycle can then be locked and unlocked using the app allowing users the opportunity to stop and start cycle journeys at their leisure.

The prices to hire a cycles are as follows:

  • 2hrs – £7.50.
  • 6hrs – £10.50.
  • 12hrs – £12.75.
  • 1 day – £15.00.

The Commercial Director at Chiltern Railways, Justin Baines, said: ‘Our aim is to offer our customers the best travel experience. This partnership with Bainton Bikes extends onward travel options for customers and provides wider accessibility to the Oxford area.
