Westhorpe Interchange junction on the A404 at Marlow gets £1.2m funding for improvement scheme

| October 24, 2017

The Westhorpe Interchange junction on the A404 at Marlow is to be improved.

£1.187m of funding has been secured for the improvement works from Highways England’s Growth and Housing Fund. The money will be match-funded with £500,000 of developer funding and £63,000 of Growing Places funding from the LEP, making a total project budget of £1.75m.

The money will pay for measures to help relieve congestion at the junction and improve access to nearby Globe Business Park.

The funding is the result of a joint bid by Buckinghamshire County Council with Wycombe District Council, Buckinghamshire and Thames Valley Local Economic Partnership (LEP) and the Globe Park BID.

The junction improvement scheme aims to attract new companies and more jobs to Globe Business Park and enhance job security for those already there. Currently companies at Globe Park employ more than 3,000 people and contribute more than £200m to the local economy.

Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member Mark Shaw welcomed the funding. ‘I’m well aware of the congestion there, and our successful funding bid will not only help deal with this, but also help stimulate the Buckinghamshire economy.

Wycombe District Council  Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Steve Broadbent, said: ‘We’re working to make Globe Park more attractive to businesses. This funding makes a big difference and is one way we can help retain and create jobs to grow our economy.

Globe Business Park BID Chairman Tim Williams said: ‘I’m delighted Highways England have made this award, and look forward to working with stakeholders to get the best solution for our businesses and the wider community.
