Musical statue of David Bowie unveiled in Aylesbury
A musical statue of the late musician David Bowie was unveiled in Aylesbury’s Market Square at 2.00pm on Sunday 25th March 2018.
Entitled Earthly Messenger the bronze sculpture features a likeness of David Bowie overlooking a several life size impressions of his alter egos, including Ziggy Stardust. Every hours speakers mounted above the art work will play a Bowie song.
The statue, designed by sculptor Andrew Sinclair, was unveiled by singer-songwriter Howard Jones who called it a ‘result for Aylesbury‘.
A crowd funding appeal by music promoter David Stopps and grants raised £100,000 to fund the creation and installation of the statue
Bowie’s first appeared in his Ziggy Stardust persona at Aylesbury’s Friars music venue in 1972.
