Aylesbury Gardenway Orbital Park moves a step closer

The Aylesbury Gardenway is a step closer following the awarding of the contract for the development of the parameter design for the key public realm project.

The contract has been awarded to Urban Movement who will now undertake a scoping exercise to identify the route.

Encircling Aylesbury, the Gardenway will deliver an 18km long orbital park of fully connected green and blue infrastructure, local parks, woodlands, playgrounds, community gardens, natural areas, waterways, and heritage sites.

The Gardenway will be a distinctive, user friendly open space dedicated to providing a fully accessible walking, cycling, and wheeling route connecting with routes into the countryside and back into the town centre via the canal, Gemstone cycle routes, footpaths and, brooks. It will be a place to walk, cycle, relax and, connect with your community.

This is the first major transformational project of the Aylesbury Garden Town Masterplan to get under way and will truly transform the way people move in and around Aylesbury. The Gardenway received significant support as part of the public consultation on the Masterplan and communities will be involved right from the start to help us design, construct, and look after the park.

Cllr. Steve Bowles, Aylesbury Garden Town’s Board Chairman and Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Town Centre Regeneration, said: ‘This contract award recognises the strength of Urban Movement’s experience to work with communities to co-design and co-create large public realm projects.

The construction of the Gardenway will take place in stages and will take many years to complete but the conceptual parameter design will give us what we need to identify the different sections and to start working with our local communities so key to seeing the project become a reality.‘
