High Wycombe town centre will host its first ‘Covid-friendly’ event on Sunday 27th September 2020 when the Showbus flyby comes to town.

The event, which features a display of up to 100 classic buses and coaches, will replace the SHOWBUS international display which had been due to take place at Hertfordshire County Showground.

The 2020 event has been carefully revamped following Covid and aims to allows enthusiasts to enjoy the parade whilst still adhering to social distancing guidelines.

On the morning of the event, buses will leave the M40 Services at Beaconsfield and Wheatley every couple of minutes from 10.00am. They will travel along the A40 before stopping briefly at venues along the route to provide a series of photo opportunities.

Locations where the buses will stop include Wycombe Retail Park, High Wycombe bus station and High Wycombe High Street.

The event will also feature the first electric bus to visit High Wycombe which will be welcomed into the High Street by the current High Wycombe Mayor, Maz Hussain.

Melanie Williams, Chief Executive of HWBIDCo (the team behind the management of High Wycombe town centre) said: ‘We’re thrilled to welcome the showbus flyby to High Wycombe.

Given the current uncertainty surrounding events and activities, it’s encouraging that we are still able to bring this kind of offer to the town centre. We’ve been working alongside organisers to ensure every precautionary measure is in place for the event to run as smoothly and safely as possible.

We know that our activities and events will be a little different over the coming months, but with some careful re-thinking, we’re confident that our autumn and winter calendar will still entice visitors and offer people the chance to once again enjoy the town centre safely.

Event organiser and Brunel University Bus Society Chairman, Martin Isles said: ‘We are delighted to have this chance to bring the Showbus experience to so many people in Bucks this year. There will be buses old and new, many with local connections, but some travelling from as far as Yorkshire and will include the first electric bus to visit the area.

In addition to the flyby, collectors and bus enthusiasts will also be able to purchase a wide variety of bus memorabilia thanks to a dedicated traders village which will set-up in High Wycombe High Street on the morning of the event.
