Work is progressing on a smart new boathouse café on The Rye in High Wycombe.

A smart new building on The Rye in High Wycombe housing the boathouse café is now in place and work is taking place on the services and internal fittings.

Visitors to the Green Flag winning park can look forward to using the new café early in 2021. The new structure, which is located in the same position next to the Dyke, replaces the old deteriorating corrugated shed which was no longer fit for purpose.

The new building was built off-site and hoisted into place last week. The building includes public toilets which is an addition that was much requested by park visitors. The improved facilities will also include:

  • Modern catering facilities.
  • Indoor seating.
  • New boat equipment store.
  • Patio area with outdoor seating.

Externally the building has a wood cladding, green sedum roof and two folding doors to give views of the Dyke from the café.

With the structure in place, work is now progressing on getting the electricity and plumbing connected, cladding internal walls and installing the flooring and fixtures including the heating and the toilets.

Cllr Clive Harriss, Cabinet Member Sports and Leisure at Buckinghamshire Council, visited the site on Friday16th October 2020 to see the progress for himself and said: ‘The design of the new building sits well in this attractive waterside setting. The contractors are hard at work trying to complete the installation so the benefit for park visitors can be enjoyed when it opens early in the new year [2021].

The Dyke is a popular area for boating during the summer months and the park continues to attract people of all ages who can enjoy socially distanced visits while coronavirus restrictions remain in place.
