All my life I have had the pleasure of residing in the wonderful town of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. Indeed my ancestors have resided in Wycombe and the surrounding area for several centuries.
During my lifetime there have been many changes take place in our town. At the present time the town is changing faster than ever before however I feel that not all the changes are for the better.
I would like to share my experience of life in Wycombe with you through this blog to hopefully raise awareness of the problems the residents face in their daily lives.

Opinion : Don’t forget the First World War
It was very peaceful sitting on the bench (pictured above) in the Parish churchyard today while I tucked into my sandwiches. A handful of people were walking around the town centre and several pigeons waddled around my feet looking for any crumbs my good self may have dropped on the ground. Of course right there […]
Opinion : It’s time to ban pavement parking
Walking along the pavements of the town should be a nice experience. Sadly all too often the poor pedestrian finds themselves having to negotiate around parked cars, vans and even the odd lorry. Yours truly does not stand in the road blocking the way of the motorists so why do the motorists think they have […]
Opinion : Are potholes still a problem on our roads?
My word how time is flying by. Winter is over, spring is here and this Sunday, the 30th March, will see the clocks altered to give an extra hour of daylight at the cost of an hours sleep on Saturday night. Last winter was fairly mild, unusually there was no snow at all and only […]
Opinion : Maybe an artifical Marlow is best?
Wasn’t it nice weather last weekend? For once yours truly had a little spare time on my hands so it seemed like a good idea to get in my trusty car and take a trip over to Marlow. Indeed what could be better that a quick Saturday afternoon stroll in Higginson Park now the flood […]
Opinion : Can Wycombe’s hills be made safer?
Living in Wycombe we are used to hills indeed they are part of daily life. For a Wycombe person driving up and down the hills is second nature indeed when my good self was a youngster, like all the youngsters in Wycombe, I used to race down the hills on my bicycle. The steepness of […]
Opinion : Let’s make Wycombe a ‘Garden Town’
Wasn’t it nice weather last weekend. Spring is definitely here indeed I heard the distant chimes of the first ice cream van of the year as it plied its trade around the neighbourhoods of the town. The daffodils are making a real impact on the town at the moment, indeed anyone driving along the Hughenden […]
Opinion : Residential roads should not be commercial car parks
What a lovely day it was today. My lunchtime walk around the town centre was most enjoyable on what was a nice warm spring day. As I sat in the grounds of the parish churchyard with the sound of birdsong filling the air I thought to myself how lovely it is in Wycombe town centre. […]
Opinion : Zero hours is no way to live
I get up early every morning and make my way into Wycombe to start yet another punishing day at work like many others. At least yours truly is guaranteed a wage, paltry as it may be, however these days many people are on what they call ‘zero hours’ contracts. Tied to one employer and with […]
Opinion : Not having a TV licence may soon no longer be a criminal offence
Wasn’t it a fine day today? For the first time in ages it was a pleasure to promenade around Wycombe town centre at lunchtime and there wasn’t a single puddle in sight. In fact the weather was so nice and it was still light that yours truly spent a short while in my garden after […]
Opinion : Council Tax – Do we get value for money?
There was some good news at the end of last week. For fourth year running Wycombe District Council has agreed to freeze its share of the Council Tax so there will be no rise in 2014/15. In these times of financial hardship any small saving is a most welcome relief especially for those on lower […]
